2006 Results: Nick Lampson (D) defeated write-in candidate Shelley Sekula Gibbs (R) by 52% to 42%. Sekula Gibbs won the special election to replace Tom DeLay (R) after his resignation, and served in the lame-duck session of the 109th Congress

Tom DeLay resigned after his name was printed on the ballot, and four Republicans ran in the Nov. 7 special election to replace him. Three of those candidates also ran as write-ins in the general election.
